Value of IRMA Services

IRMA Services

This document will serve to highlight the available services for IRMA members. These services have been broken down into six major areas with a brief program description provided in each area. These services are available to IRMA members at minimal or no cost. Additional details can be provided through the IRMA office.

Training & Education Program

IRMA Leadership Institute

The Leadership Institute offers a series of well-designed programs that concentrate on developing your supervisor’s leadership and management skills. These half-day programs offer practical, immediately useable techniques.

Regional Training

Regional Training seminars are usually half-day sessions that pertain to specific risk reduction and intergovernmental pooling issues.

Coffee & Conversation Workshop Series

The Coffee & Conversation Workshop Series provides information and networking on topics relating to internal and emerging issues in the arena of risk management. This series of programs are usually 1 to 3 hours in length. (No charge)

Special Training – Steering Committees

The Steering Committee Special Training programs are recommended and sponsored by the IRMA Fire, Police, and Public Works Steering Committees. These programs are targeted toward each of these specific departmental personnel training needs. The programs range from a half-day to a two-day lecture and/or hands-on training session.

Annual Golf Outing

The Annual Golf Outing is a scramble/best ball event that is well suited to players of every skill level. Upon finishing 18 holes of golf, members are invited to a lunch buffet and award presentation.

IRMA Orientation Program

IRMA hosts orientation programs throughout the year to familiarize members with IRMA services and staff. The orientation is approximately 3 hours in length and is held at the IRMA Office. (No charge)

IRMA NAPD Professional Driver Training Program

The NAPD program is designed to enhance the performance of an employee’s capabilities behind the wheel and to become more aware of their responsibilities from a safety standpoint. The NAPD driver training program offers an employee actual practice in many kinds of driving situations at average speeds of about 30 miles per hour. The driver training programs are offered to Fire, Police and Public Works drivers.

    Special Programs

    Watchlist Program

    Members are assigned to the Watchlist Program based on specific criteria outlined in the Watchlist Policy. The program provides the member with additional services to assist the member in reversing adverse loss patterns or trends. The program was revised in 2002 to include specific staff recommended actions with timeframes for completion.

    Non-Member Risk Management Services

    Risk management/loss prevention services provided on a contract basis to non-members expressing a genuine interest in applying for membership.

    Non-Member Claims Administration

    Claims handling on a contract basis for non-members who have expressed a genuine interest in applying for membership.

    Unemployment Compensation Claims Administration

    Grant Programs

    Accreditation Programs

    IRMA offers a 50% reimbursement grant to members achieving these nationwide accreditations. Members are also offered 25% reimbursement each time reaccreditation is achieved.

    CALEA/Police Accreditation/Reaccreditation

  • 50% Reimbursement – Accreditation
  • 25% Reimbursement – Reaccreditation
  • Fire Service CPSE Accreditation/Reaccreditation

  • 50% Reimbursement – Accreditation
  • 25% Reimbursement – Reaccreditation
  • APWA Accreditation/Reaccreditation

  • 50% Reimbursement – Accreditation
  • 25% Reimbursement – Reaccreditation
  • Fire Service Back Ergonomic Program

    IRMA offers a 50% reimbursement grant to member fire departments/districts purchasing up to three (3) pieces of equipment for member ambulances and 50% of the cost of Backsafe training conducted.

    • $1,000 maximum funding per department/district

    Lexipol Policy Manual Development Program

    IRMA offers up to 50% reimbursement grant to member police departments for the initial development of a comprehensive policy manual by Lexipol.  The department must also be non-CALEA accredited and purchase the daily training bulletin for the initial year.

    Award Programs

    Excellence in Public Risk Management

    • Large Member Category $1500 + plaque
    • Small Member Category $1500 + plaque
    • Special District Category $1500 + plaque

    A composite score is calculated based equally on the following criteria.

    • Five-year Member’s Claim Experience-Severity
    • Five-year Claims to Member Contribution Ratio
    • Most recent IMAP Evaluation Percentage of Compliance Rating
       

    Best Risk Management/Safety Initiative Award

    This award is designed to encourage innovative safety/risk management ideas and programs developed and implemented by members. The Training and Education Committee selects and rewards up to three submissions for their effectiveness, creativity and positive impact upon a risk management program.

    • $1500 + plaque

    Risk Management Scholarship Program

    This program provides for up to two scholarship awards to out-of-town public risk management conferences, based on written submissions from member employees on how the educational opportunity would benefit their public entity.

    • Two (2) scholarships for up to $1,000 each to cover 50% of the cost for a member employee to attend an out-of-town public risk management conference.

    Resource Services

    The multi-media services outlined below are available to members at no cost to assist them in providing employee training and additional resources on a variety of risk management/safety topics.

    Video Training Library

    The library has a large selection of videos and DVDs in the areas of: General Health & Safety, Accident Prevention, Fire Prevention, Police Safety, Firefighter Safety, Public Works Safety, Traffic Work Zone Safety, Confined Space, Respirator Protection, Chemical Safety, Driver Safety, Supervisor Safety, and General Management.

    A-Z Electronic Resource Files

    • Numerous Municipal Specific & General Risk Management/Loss Control Topics
    • Sample Member Policies & Procedures

    Model Best Practices Policies

    "Best Practices" policies/guidelines developed by IRMA for use by members on a variety of risk management related and operational policies.

    My Community Workplace

    My Community Workplace.org is a dynamic web-based  platform designed specifically for public and nonprofit entities. This platform provides state-of-the-art training, human resources functions, as well as up-to-date information important to your community. My Community Workplace.org takes your entity to the next level in web-based education, training and risk management.

    This site provides harassment prevention, discrimination prevention, workplace ethics and other training for all employees. Web-based articles provide weekly information on health and wellness, safety, leadership, legal updates, and risk prevention techniques, including downloadable checklists for future use. Model policies and procedures and online human resource functions are available for members use at no cost.
